General Motors continues to falter; may discontinue Saturn

Saturn’s slogan is now “Rethink”, but it’s beginning to look like the GM-owned automaker is taking that sentiment in a completely different direction. After making an effort to rebrand the Saturn line and produce a variety of attractive vehicles, General Motors might pull the plug on the 23-year-old auto line. With rumors of bankruptcies and dealers going out of business (none of which were true), Saturn’s reputation has been taking some serious hits lately. It’s also no help that the US automotive industry is suffering and relying on the government for a bailout, so GM is going to strongly consider shutting down Saturn while it forms plans this week in terms of an impending reorg. We imagine it’s not going to be a tough decision since Saturn hasn’t been profitable for GM at all. Along with axing the celestial brand, the automotive giant is considering selling off the Saab line and turning Pontiac into a “niche” brand, much like Saturn is now. So, after several years of producing what seems to be like one or two models, Saturn now offers several decent vehicles: Astra, Outlook, Sky, Vue and Aura. Still, it has failed to gain any real popularity and is likely going to disappear forever. Is anyone actually going to miss it?

Thanks, Alex R!

3M MPro110 Projector

p3M’s MPro110 is the first of a new wave of tiny digital projectors about to wash onto the market. This sector saw some bounce earlier this year with Microvision, Texas Instruments and 3M all talking up their respective micro projector ventures, which will eventually find themselves incorporated into cellular phones, cameras, etc. But the MPro110, available here and now, follows a more traditional route. A pocket-sized digital projector that handles feeds from both VGA and composite video sources, wersquo;re happy to report that itrsquo;s a solid fit for the average road warrior. And yes, it really does fit in the palm of your hand./p

Netflix Watch Instantly for Mac exits beta

Back in October we told you that Netflix had plans to bring Watch Instantly to Mac users and after a surprisingly brief opt-in beta period, game on. The service is now officially out of beta and all Intel-based Mac owners who subscribe to Netflix can begin enjoying computer downloads. Woo hoo! Netflix’s ever-increasing download catalog packed full of movies and television shows is available to all though it has been a long time coming, it was worth the wait for plenty. Netflix blamed the delay on Apple, claiming that lack of support from Cupertino made Silverlight compatibility a bit of a pain. No matter though, Mac users are now good to go. Hit us in the comments section and let us know how it’s working.
